How do conventional and decorative concrete driveway finishes differ?

When is a pervious concrete driveway a different system?

Which driveway specifications are not separate concrete types?

Some common labels describe one attribute of the driveway rather than a complete driveway category. These attributes may be important, but each still needs a measurable requirement.

  • Four-inch, 5-inch, or 6-inch concrete: These are thickness choices. Review the driveway thickness guide before treating more concrete as a complete design.
  • High-PSI concrete: PSI states specified compressive strength, not the base, drainage, joints, finish, or curing plan.

Choose exposed aggregate, stamping, or color when the appearance justifies additional sample, installation, sealing, maintenance, and repair considerations. Consider pervious concrete only when stormwater performance is part of a properly designed and maintainable system.
