Concrete Driveway Replacement Cost
Concrete driveway replacement combines at least two separately priced scopes: removing the existing pavement and installing the new driveway. Using current national consumer references, removal is a planning allowance of $3 to $8 per square foot, including disposal, while a standard to basic decorative concrete driveway is $6 to $15 per square foot installed. Site correction, drainage work, access restrictions, permits, and custom finishes can sit outside those ranges.
How should you estimate replacement cost?
Measure the area, calculate removal and installation separately, then add only the project-specific work identified in the written scope. Do not assume that a contractor's installed square-foot price includes demolition or that a removal quote includes base correction.

These columns are separate arithmetic allowances, not a combined contractor quote. For example, a 24-by-24-foot driveway produces $3,456 to $8,640 for installation and $1,728 to $4,608 for removal. Adding them gives a preliminary $5,184 to $13,248 before project-specific extras and overlap between a contractor's line items.
What belongs in a driveway replacement scope?
- Limits of demolition, saw cutting, hauling, disposal, and recycling.
- Protection for the garage, street, landscaping, utilities, and adjacent pavement.
- Excavation depth, unsuitable-soil treatment, aggregate base, compaction, and grading.
- Drainage direction, finished elevations, apron, sidewalk, curb, and garage transitions.
- Concrete thickness, mixture requirements, reinforcement, joint layout, finish, and curing.
- Permit and inspection responsibility, access, cleanup, restoration, schedule, and warranty terms.
When is replacement different from repair?
Replacement removes the existing pavement and rebuilds the driveway section. Crack filling, lifting, localized panel replacement, and resurfacing address narrower conditions. The right choice depends on movement, elevation differences, support, drainage, surface condition, affected area, and the remaining useful condition of the unaffected concrete.

How should replacement quotes be compared?
