How the Quote Checker Works

1

Enter Your Project

Select your project type, size, finish, and ZIP code. We use those inputs to calculate a broad planning range.

2

Enter Your Quote

Enter the quoted price. We compare it with the model range using the applicable published planning range.

3

Review the Comparison

See whether the quote falls below, within, or above the planning range, then check the scope for factors the model cannot see.

Where does the pricing data come from?

The checker uses RM4L's published planning ranges and applies adjustments for the project details you enter. Review the underlying detailed cost guides for the assumptions and cost factors behind those ranges.

The model accounts for project type, square footage, and supported finish categories. Add-ons remain scope-review items because one universal price would be misleading. ZIP code does not change the national planning range. It cannot inspect access, drainage, soil, engineering, permit requirements, scheduling, contractor availability, or the completeness of the written quote.

Important: This tool provides estimates based on generalized planning ranges. Your actual project cost depends on site-specific conditions, contractor experience, seasonal demand, and the scope of work included in the quote. Compare multiple written quotes when practical and ask each contractor to identify inclusions, exclusions, and allowances.
